5 BANDS, 5 QUESTIONS: Cuchillo

Last year, in similar circumstances (Barcelona, May, surrounded by festival-goers and seagulls) I saw Cuchillo live for the first time. A small stage, three or four dozen people in the audience. And suddenly, time next to the Mare Nostrum came to a standstill. Never before three guys that play while sitting down and dreams were so close together. Because –warning– psychedelia can break you in half.

This year they arrive into a bigger stage, closer to the sea, with more time to stop the universe and an album entirely in Spanish.

Cuchillo will be playing in the San Miguel Primavera Sound Festival, on the Ray-Ban stage on Friday 1st at 5:00 pm. The knife-grinder is already waiting in the amphitheater.

1. The best and worst about playing at a festival.

The best: the promotion you get in the media. The worst is that people don’t concentrate as much as they do in a normal concert in a closed venue. At a festival there is a slight overdose...

2. What band are you looking forward to at this year’s Primavera Sound?

Mazzy Star.

3. A song you always listen to when you go on tour or before a concert.

What are their names by David Crosby.

4. One of your songs which you still haven’t grown tired of playing.

Breathing Again.

5. Why "Cuchillo"?

There is a village in New Mexico named Cuchillo and we really liked the frontier vibe it suggested. The name’s connotations also fit the music… it has something restless and profound.
