ARTSPOTTER: art from the palm of your hand

Do you always find out about an exhibition when it has already finished? In that case, from now on you will have no excuses to miss a single one. ArtSpotter, a new app for iPhone and iPad, will inform you of any interesting exhibitions near you, wherever you are. You will also be able to share your opinions and photos, create collections and look up what exhibitions have been recommended by other users (from now on we will have to add “check ArtSpotter” to the To-Do list before our trips).

But there is more. If you discover an interesting exhibition that is not on the map, you can add it and become a true art spotter (who doesn’t want to be a trendsetter?). From the most obscure exhibition in your neighbourhood’s gallery to Invader’s latest urban intervention. Everything goes, but not in the same way: if you want to have a good reputation among other users and have many followers, you must be careful with your selection.

All contributions are reflected in an interactive map that can be accessed through ArtSpotter’s app or website. It came out a few weeks ago so we can only see a few pink pins (ArtSpotter’s distinctive colour). But that will change once we all register and do our bit so that nobody, never again, misses an exhibition.

With apps like this, we can say out loud not only that everyone is an artist; but also –and above all– that everyone is a critic.
