GEOMETRIC PORN: An App too obscene for Apple

Geometric Porn. The name of this project does not leave room for doubts. It’s an App designed by Luciano Foglia, a multidisciplinary visual artist who has been working in the design industry for over ten years, especially by experimenting with visual and auditory stimuli. That is precisely the base of Geometric Porn, where, by means of geometric forms, Foglia recreates non-explicit images of the sexual organs and of several activities that can be performed with them. It is only an evocation through geometry but Apple considers it too obscene for its App Store and has rejected it. The reason argued by the North American multinational is that Geometric Porn presents excessively objectionable or crude content.

Foglia usually experiments with images and sounds. One of his projects, presented in Barcelona last year, consisted of a projection, in three different screens, of a couple that kissed as the environmental noise of the room increased. The artist’s website recreates an ATM interface that plays with times. When, after a few seconds choosing between different actions such as, for example, topping up your mobile phone, suddenly the screen goes from a deep blue to a lethal black as it notifies of a fatal error, and you can’t help feeling a bit nervous. Foglia’s work aims to incite a reaction among the public, and maybe that is why Apple’s rejection hasn’t caused Geometric Porn’s death. Through its website you can buy T-shirts with the images for 32.87 euros plus delivery costs. What these geometric forms might provoke printed on fabric is a personal issue; but, watch out, spring has just begun.
