Although the best things in life tend to be free, they sometimes cost money. Sometimes, a lot of money. And that is why some of us can’t help smiling when the words design and affordable get closer together. New initiatives are appearing after the success of the North American store Fab.com, which has transformed the way discount design products are sold, such as the German MONOQI. Yesterday it opened its virtual doors, satisfying the curiosity of those of us who are on this side of the ocean.
This Berlin based start-up relies on an international team of more than 20 experts obsessed about the form, function and fun of our everyday products. The objects are chosen by design professionals and put up for sale with a discount for a limited period of 72 hours. For its launch they have selected products by Judith van den Boom, Wednesday Paper Works, Geografia or Pia Wustenberg. For now it is only available to users who had previously opened an account, but throughout this week there will be new possibilities to access the site –if anyone is left wanting to know more about MONOQI’s likings, you can spend some time on their Tumblr.
Sometimes –with reason or without it– a simple piece of wood can give us the break we need when it seems impossible to escape from our serialized clothes, furniture and life.
